James Dean – James Byron Dean

“Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.” – James Dean

James Dean was born on February 8th, 1931 in Marion, Indiana. His hobbies were writing, painting, bullfighting (when did that happen?), photography, sculpting, car racing, horse racing and playing the bongos. His favorite drink was coffee and his favorite ice cream flavor was coffee and raspberry.

“To grasp the full significance of life is the actor’s duty; to interpret it his problem; and to express it his dedication. Being an actor is the loneliest thing in the world. You are all alone with your concentration and imagination, and that’s all you have. Being a good actor isn’t easy. Being a man is even harder. I want to be both before I’m done.”

James Dean’s first professional acting gig was a Pepsi commercial. Since then, Michael Jackson, Cindy Crawford, Michael J. Fox, Shaquille O’Neal, Jeff Gordon, Ray Charles, Billy Crystal, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Shakira, The Osbournes, Faith Hill, Sammy Sosa, Joe Montana, Ken Griffey Jr., Gloria Estafan, Tina Turner and many others have endorsed the blue canned beverage.

Before Pepsi was called Pepsi, it was called “Brad’s Drink” way back in 1898. Well, another Brad, Brad Pitt is now vying for the chance to remake James Dean’s first film, “East of Eden” with Pitt in the starring role. Dean’s performance in “East of Eden” won him an Oscar nomination, making him one of only five actors to receive a nomination from their first screen performances. He was also the only actor in history to receive more than one Oscar nomination posthumously.

“Studying cows, pigs and chickens can help an actor develop his character. There are a lot of things I learned from animals. One was that they couldn’t hiss or boo me. I also became close to nature, and am now able to appreciate the beauty with which this world is endowed.”

Dean was required to wear glasses while driving as he was nearsighted. The king of cool, had to wear glasses, if only he had been around long enough to do a public service announcement for that, then being a “four-eyes” would have meant a completely different thing these days.

No matter what kind of music James Dean listened to, he liked it LOUD! But what did he listen to? After all it was the early 50’s and Elvis had yet to become the King, the Beatles had yet to become the Fab Four…What did James Dean rock out to, before there was Rock? He liked African Tribal music, Afro-Cuban songs and dance (Dean liked to play the bongos), Classical music – especially Bartok and Stravinsky, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday.

“When an actor plays a scene exactly the way a director orders, it isn’t acting. It’s following instructions. Anyone with the physical qualifications can do that. So the director’s task is just that 񠴯 direct, to point the way. Then the actor takes over. And he must be allowed the space, the freedom to express himself in the role. Without that space, an actor is no more than an unthinking robot with a chest-full of push-buttons.”

It has been said that James Dean’s favorite song was Billie Holiday’s “When Your Lover Has Gone” and his favorite album was Frank Sinatra’s “Songs for Young Lovers”.

“An actor must interpret life, and in order to do so must be willing to accept all the experiences life has to offer. In fact, he must seek out more of life than life puts at his feet. In the short span of his lifetime, an actor must learn all there is to know, experience all there is to experience, or approach that state as closely as possible. He must be superhuman in his efforts to store away in the core of his subconscious everything that he might be called upon to use in the expression of his art.”

Dean only made three Hollywood pictures, propelling him into super stardom. As his final film, Giant, was wrapping up in Marfa, Texas, Dean was driving his Porsche Spyder to an auto race in Salinas, California. His car collided with another can outside Cholame, California. James Dean, an American legend, died on September 30th, 1955. The Failure Analysis Associates later re-created all the details of the accident at the same approximate time on September 30th, and concluded that James Dean was traveling 55 to 56 m.p.h. when the fateful accident occurred, thereby proving he had not been speeding, despite the fact that he had received a speeding ticket only two hours before the crash.

“Jim Dean and Elvis were the spokesmen for an entire generation. When I was in acting school in New York, years ago, there was a saying that if Marlon Brando changed the way people acted, then James Dean changed the way people lived. He was the greatest actor who ever lived. He was simply a genius.” – Martin Sheen

“Every time I go to Europe, I remember that James Dean never saw Europe, but yet I see his face everywhere. There James Dean, Humphrey Bogart and Marilyn Monroe windows of the Champs Elysees, discos in the south of Spain, restaurants in Sweden, t-shirts in Moscow. My life was confused and disoriented for years by his passing. My sense of destiny destroyed the great films he would have directed, the great performances he would have given, the great humanitarian he would have become, and yet, he is the greatest actor and star I have ever known.” – Dennis Hopper

Isuzu Amigo: Claiming Its Right to Fame

The automobile market was actually monopolized in the 1980s by full size sport utility vehicles. However, come the spring of 1989, in the midst of all those full size SUVs came a compact SUV. It was a sporty mini SUV. It was the Isuzu Amigo.

It came both in a two wheel drive and a four wheel drive. There also were two choices for the engine. The two wheel drive is matched to the 2.3 liter engine with four cylinders and can produce some 96 units of horsepower. As per the four wheel drive, it got matched with the 2.6 liter engine with four cylinders and could produce some 120 horsepower. Both of these engines held a five speed manual transmission system.

Despite the fact that it was a new addition to the market where sport utility vehicles were taking most of the share, the Isuzu Amigo was able to shine through. It even took up a fair share of the SUV and the automobile market. It took the interest of the generation X who were craving for a sporty and flashy sport utility vehicle that held a very reasonable price. Not only does the Isuzu Amigo look good but it also drives good. It has a small engine that means it uses up a lesser amount of gas compared to the full size ones out in the market.

Just like any other vehicle on the market, the Isuzu Amigo has undergone and received various changes. In 1999, a year after it was introduced, it came as a new hardtop wagon with a pop up sunroof over the rear seat. There also was a heated rear window that joined the original semi-convertible. The cruise control system was deleted from the list of features. In 2000, the Isuzu Amigo came with a restyled nose and tail as well. The Isuzu Amigo came then with a standard cruise control as well as adjustable shock absorbers to add to the features that it would boast of. There also was an Intelligent Suspension Control made optional. A year after in 2001, it came with an added rear cargo tray.

Exactly What Does “Stand Down” Mean?

While we’re certain that the phrase “stand down,” which we hear with unaccustomed frequency in reference to our someday departure from Iraq, has a long and venerable history, we still cannot help but be niggled by what appears to us the apparent illogic of the postural invocation.

While we are not certain about the general experience of the human race, we are at least in regard to ourselves, pretty well convinced that the idea of “stand” is strikingly at variance with the positional adjustment required to achieve the state of being “down.”

Although we may be a bit perverse in our preference or conditioning, it seems to us that when we “stand,” we greatly increase the likelihood that we will more nearly approximate the position usually described as “up.”

We certainly understand that there is perhaps a subtle resistance in the military and the White House to associate our adjustments to military and diplomatic events with any term that so flagrantly flirts with the negative connotations that lurk within the word “down.” Yet it still seems to us that logic is on our side and that it would not be irreparably incriminating to refer to the adjustment in terms of our departure from Iraq as “standing aside,” while we allow the Iraqi army to “stand up.”

If we’re being entirely unreasonable here, we apologize, but our sense of postural propriety tends to intrude from time to time on our capacity to be deaf to its more flagrant abuses.

Does Your Car Insurance Cover Everything Important?

It is important that you do take good care of your car. After all, possibly like most people, it would be one of the most expensive investments you might ever have spent on. To protect you and your car as well for any other excess expenses due to accidents or other untoward incidents, vehicle insurance could do just the trick. However, keep in mind that to actually purchase insurance for your car would also mean that you would have to spend a considerable amount.

Vehicle insurance, or car insurance or auto insurance or whatever term you may want to call it, is mainly used to provide protection against losses that could be incurred as a result of being part of traffic accidents. You see, accidents could lead to huge damages which equate to huge expenses as well. Vehicle insurance covers that so that you would not have to shell out any more money. In fact, there are even some insurance companies whose coverage includes you, your car, and even other parties included in the accident.

Of course, you should try choosing the right kind of auto insurance for your car. Remember that the wider and the greater the range of coverage also means that you would have to spend more. If you have a limited amount of finances, you can try to simply ask around and inquire about auto insurance quotes. Also inquire about the areas covered. Try to find out also if you have the option to include or not to include certain areas.

Bodily injury liability insurance covers the other party’s medical bills if you actually hurt someone in an accident that was purely your fault. If you have property damage liability as part of your auto insurance, you would not have to worry much if you drive your car into another car or into a streetlight or bus stop.

Getting A Clean Carpet: Tips And Tricks

The right carpeting can really make your home look better. However, keeping your carpets clean can be a real headache. Hiring a professional carpet cleaning service can help, but you have to make sure you choose the right company. The following advice will help you avoid making costly and frustrating mistakes.

Companies that do carpet cleaning normally charge by the square foot. In order to make sure that you are not paying any more than you should, measure the area you plan to have cleaned ahead of time. If the figure quoted is much higher than you expected, you are probably dealing with a shady company.

Make sure that you get a professional clean for your carpet at least once every year. This will ensure that you are getting all of the dirt, grime and bacteria that your regular vacuum could not reach. After a professional clean, your carpet will look as if you just purchased it new.

Be wary of any carpet cleaning service that charges you per room for their services. Every room is not the same size, so it is not logical for them to offer this type of pricing. The only time this is acceptable is if it is offered at this rate as a promotion.

Try not to use too much heat as your carpets are cleaned. Heat can often damage a carpet’s quality, especially in carpets with a lot of color or made of delicate material. This is especially crucial when trying to get a tough stain out.

If you are thinking about having your carpets professionally cleaned, call around to a few different companies. Ask about any specials they are currently running such as multiple room discounts, or your first carpeted room free. Some companies will do one free room, in hopes that you will hire them for additional rooms.

Make sure to show your carpet cleaning company what spots on the carpet need special treatment. Not all carpet and stains respond to the same treatments. Any hard to clean food and drink stains, pet stains, and the like will require special product applications in order to effectively get rid of them.

By hiring a reputable and experienced carpet cleaning service, you can keep your home looking great all year long. Make good use of the advice that you have read in this article to find the right service. Before long, your carpets will look spotless again! Don’t put off having your carpets cleaned any longer!

Use the tips that follow to make your car shopping experience one that you enjoy, with a shiny new car to show for it.

Shopping for a new car can seem complicated when it comes to pricing. Take your iPad or phone with you to the dealer. You can search the Internet and find car payment calculators that will let you know what your payment is going to be without having to rely on the dealer.

Research is the key to being a happy car owner. With a budget in mind and a list of cars you want, you can begin to delve into which vehicle is right for you. You should be aware of any negative reports on the vehicles you have in mind. Know its safety ratings and value to help you negotiate a good price.

Avoid being distracted when you are shopping at a car lot. With so many vehicles available, it is easy for all your research and planning to go out the window. Remember, you should have a clear idea of the vehicle you want before you set foot on the lot, and do not let the salesperson steer you from your goal.

Figure out how much you can afford on a car payment before you get there. If you wait, your eyes will be big, and you will be willing to pay anything to get what you want. Start out with a firm figure and do not allow yourself to be moved by anything the salesman says.

You can shop for cars without going through tons of stress. While car shopping is something that many view as stressful, with some general tips, you can be driving off in your new car in no time at all. Use these tips to help you make your car shopping experience enjoyable.
